The current year is near it’s end and surely a lot has happened – for some of us more happened, for others less.
But the new year is coming and with it, a new beginning. New things will come and changes will occur. This is the way life goes and it’s all about us, how we deal with it. I hope that you, dear reader, are able to get the best out of whatever may come to you in 2008. I thank you for your support, visiting flickr memories, and enjoying these pictures I’ve found for you!
I wish you a Happy New Year!

Last May, I did some work with the Student Publishing Initiative, a fantastic institution that helps students make their own publications — and we’re talking real, page-turner books, not student newspapers. One of the projects was with Horizon Academy in Rikers Island Jail, and I recently found out that they’re using my work to help convice inmates to go to school.
That is just so unbelievably freaking cool. I also recently completed a project that was the centerpiece of a successful proposal to get a school more than $200 million in badly needed funds, but something about this tugs at my heartstrings even more.

I met her walking down a street in London, clearly distressed, I asked if I could help.
She couldn’t stop weeping for some time and we talked for a while - the photos are for her and she has asked not be named.
I think the story is all too common and needs no explanation from me Despite her wounds and distress, this young woman has big responsibilities and is tackling her life head on - I applaud her bravery!God bless her and her kid.

A note is a reminder… originally uploaded by infomaniac on 9 Sep ‘06, 11.52am CEST PST.
A note is a reminder. It can remind you of things long forgotten, it can capture moments of your memory, it can preserve feelings.
Our minds are made this way. Our memory works like this.
We generally tend to forget the bad moments of our life, the evil feelings we had. The sadness and the sorrow, the pity we feel for others - or for ourselves.
Our brain stores information in a form of networked way. Our feelings, thoughts and experiences are stored in some kind of network-pattern.
When we forget, and we will, we lose the connection to that specific pattern of that exact moment we just forgot.
A note. A note is a connection to such a pattern. Reading a note activates a pattern in your brain. This pattern has a lot of similarities with the memory-pattern you’ve already have - or have lost.
It provides a hook, an entry point, a refreshment of that pattern. It allows you to remember your own feelings from that time, revive your own experiences in your head and alas, you can recall everything.
Now this pattern thing is the key part. Scientist don’t really know yet, what it’s up to. Some of those patterns are lost forever when they are forgotten, others are like burnt into your brain cells and you’ll never ever really forget them - only that important hook that allows you to recall that very special moment.
So, if you encounter something special, take some time and spend a moment to take a note. Once, in a while, you might be glad you then invested a couple of minutes to take a note, providing a hook to a mind-blowing trip to the past.

It’s been about 5 years to this day since a dear friend passed away. I guess that is why I like to go snowboarding… to remember the good times with him on the mountain, and to just remind myself that Life is short.

its my personal opinion that comic book heroes and professional sports are only the unspoken but socially sanctioned bastions of latent homoerotic idolatry.

Taking in the sunset view.
David L. Fielding passed away December 18, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. This was his last photo. We were on our way home from a short visit to the Piper Aviation Museum in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, where our 1954 Piper Tri-Pacer was built. (It’s only a museum now, the factory since moved to Florida.)
I stopped the car and asked David to take some photos of the farmhouse and this tree. There wasn’t much of a shoulder, so I couldn’t get out of the car. It was incredibly cold, but he opened the window and carefully framed the shots for me. It was a beautiful sunset, and what turned out to be our last trip together.
A message to Flickr folk: keep taking photographs — they will always increase in personal value.

Anti-war / anti-Bush grafitti on a road in Islington. Loved it, and almost flew over my handle bars as I braked too suddenly to take the photo.
