Sometimes green is my favorite color

Sometimes green is my favorite color originally uploaded by Angele. on 13 Oct ‘07, 5.25pm CEST PST.

For my sister Melanie who loves butterflies..
It’s not that easy being green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that

It’s not easy being green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over ’cause you’re
Not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
Or stars in the sky

But green’s the color of Spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like an ocean, or important
Like a mountain, or tall like a tree

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why
Wonder, I am green and it’ll do fine, it’s beautiful
And I think it’s what I want to be

(that is the Rio Grande in the background)

Have a look at this On White in large.

Here’s To Novelty

Here’s To Novelty originally uploaded by aqui-ali on 8 May ‘07, 7.08pm CEST PST.

I see these parrots every other day now, as they tend to congregate at a park near my work. The first time I saw them I was ecstatic, the novelty of seeing a parrot in a large city amongst the skyscrapers seemed do incredible.

As I saw them more often and realized that they were easily accessible I became indifferent to the novelty. Yesterday I saw them again, and that sense of amazement came back, as I again considered more purposefully how amazingly special it is to be able to interact with parrots in a major city that is not located in the vicinity of their natural habitat.

Novelty is a construct of the curious mind, and needs to be cultivated. Novelty is everywhere, even in the world we see as familiar.

I need to remind myself of this more often…

Cows on the Hughenden estate (National Trust owned).

Buzkashi, Afghanistan

Buzkashi, Afghanistan originally uploaded by Po Lo on 19 Mar ‘06, 4.03am CET PST.

Popular game similar to polo. The riders have to take a goat or more usually a cow claf carcass rid with it around a flag and come back to drop it in a circle. No teams no rules. It is very violent but exciting. I nearly got trampled a couple times taking pictures and last week I got crushed against a barrier by several horses. Hope you like the shots (more in my photos)
Added to the Cream of the Crop pool as "most favorited"
